Covid-19 updates for the UK healthcare sector

COVID-19 has been affecting the health and wellbeing of the population in almost every country around the world. However, its impact on the UK has been considered as one of the significant issues for the healthcare sector. There has been a continuous rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the UK, and the death toll is also getting higher. Around 316,367 coronavirus cases are present in the UK with deaths around 41,358, which is a significant concern for the healthcare sector. The healthcare sector has  already been dealing with the shortage of healthcare workers in the country. In this situation, it is essential to emphasise on the COVID-19 updates that have an impact on the UK healthcare sector.

The UK Healthcare sector has been experiencing an evolution where the COVID-19 pandemic has put a higher strain on the healthcare workers in the country. However, around 2000 former NHS (National Health Service) workers have returned to work to help the frontlines to fight against coronavirus. In addition, approximately 750,000 members of the public have also responded to the call of the NHS to volunteer to help the country win the fight against the current pandemic. Around 4000 to 5000 beds were set up at the NHS Nightingale Hospital London to treat patients with COVID-19.

On the one hand, the UK healthcare sector has been dealing with the shortage of healthcare workers, which put the safety and health of patients at risk all over the UK. On the other hand, help has been coming forward to help the government and the healthcare organisations to provide necessary treatment to patients infected with COVID-19. This is a practical approach of the population to strengthen the healthcare sector in the UK. However, there are certain issues such as the unavailability of vaccine to treat COVID-19 and the increasing number of coronavirus cases, which are a few challenges for the UK healthcare sector.

The healthcare sector around the world has also been focusing on using digital health checks to fight against coronavirus. In the UK, the healthcare sector has a strong presence in digital health, which could help the country to deal with the current pandemic. Also, different countries around the world are focused on developing a vaccine for coronavirus and Russia to become the first country to register a COVID-19 vaccine. The government of the country has claimed that the vaccine has passed all the necessary tests, but WHO (World Health Organisation) claimed that the Russian vaccine is not among the nine that the organisation considered in the advance stage of testing.

Therefore, it is an opportunity for the UK healthcare sector to develop their vaccine considering all the aspects and instructions of WHO to fight against coronavirus. However, the British Pharmaceutical Industry has been working closely with the Department of Health and the NHS to develop adequate solutions for the current situation. In the present circumstance, the UK healthcare sector should focus on maintaining healthcare organisations so that quality care and support can be provided to patients with COVID-19.
